We planned this trip with our friends for the July 4th Weekend in just a couple of days. The combination of 100°F summer heat and the numerous destinations we visited in just 3.5 days made the trip truly memorable.
By the way, do not visit Arizona in July like us!
Itinerary
Day 1: Wahweap RV Park & Campground, Page, AZ.
Day 2: Monument Valley, Wahweap Swim Beach
Day 3: Buckskin Gulch, Grand Canyon – North Rim
Day 4: Horseshoe Bend
Wahweap RV Park & Campground
Day 1: Driving to campsite – Wahweap RV Park & Campground, Page, AZ.
We left around 3.30 pm from Orange County, stopped by Las Vegas for a quick dinner, then continued driving to Page, AZ. We arrived around 2 am, set up the camps, and slept. We fell in love with the starry sky, but the heat kept us awake. We woke up very early, had breakfast (peanut sticky rice, yay!), and started Day 2.
Monument Valley
Day 2: Monument Valley & Wahweap Swim Beach
Monument Valley
I had always wanted to visit Monument Valley. Unfortunately, the Navajo Nation Parks closed during that time. But driving around the monument already gave us many incredible views and pictures. It was incredibly hot, so we didn’t explore further and returned to our campsite.
Wahweap Swim Beach
Wahweap RV Park & Campground is one of the best camping sites we’ve been to. It was clean and had an electric outlet in the restroom for cooking. There were also public bath rooms. The site itself has fantastic views and a beach!

Tip: You should come early to avoid long waiting line in front of the showering rooms especially at the end of the day.
Buckskin Gulch & Grand Canyon
Day 3: Buckskin Gulch Trail & Grand Canyon – North Rim
Buckskin Gulch Trail
We started Day 3 by hiking the Bucksin Gulch Trail, around a 1-hour drive from our campsite. What we liked about the Buckskin Gulch Trail is that you can experience Utah’s beauty in ample space. That means you don’t need to get close to strangers (during the COVID pandemic). It’s free. Also, it gets cooler down here. Highy recommended!
Note: A friend of mine tried to get there but couldn’t. I recently discovered that Buckskin Gulch is the longest slot canyon in the world, with five trailheads. Please read more before coming to avoid getting lost. I found this one similar to what we took.

Grand Canyon
We then drove to Grand Canyon to see sunset: Point Imperial and Bright Angel Point. Perfect timing for sunset.
Day 4: Horseshoe Bend
Horseshoe Bend
Note: $10 fee for Horseshoe Bend and you might need to wait for good pictures.
It’s a great idea visiting Horseshoe Bend in the morning since it’s not as hot. It’s a short walk to the viewpoint and you would get wonderful pictures here.
TIPS:
- Don’t visit Arizona in July!!! We had fun but hell no, we won’t come back here in July ever again. It’s crazy hot.
- Wahweap RV Park & Campground, Page, AZ is awesome. Wifi, electricity & showering available. Clean and close to beautiful destinations. The campground itself has some fun activities like swimming, boating…
- Drink plenty of water, always, to stay hydrated.
- Bring 25c coins so you can buy showering time. We only learn how precious these 25c are once we came here. Luckily, the gift shop offered coin exchange.
Trip End. Beautiful memories with our friends 🙂
